HEARING LOSS…SAYS A LOT!

DID YOU KNOW THAT  LOOSING YOUR HEARING CAN INDICATE OTHER HEALTH ISSUES?  AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, WE ARE NOT GETTING TESTED REGULARLY!

So, what does all of this mean? Well, first let me point out that hearing loss is not restricted to folks over 50 years-old!  In fact, more and more young people are afflicted with hearing issues due to decades of loud music streaming through those headsets and earphones!

So, listen up: A number  of research shows that dwindling hearing could be an early tip-off of other conditions, from Alzheimer’s to cardiovascular disease.  What’s so astonishingis that a large number of  doctors don’t regularly check their patients’ hearing!  Ellen Finkelstein, M.D., an audiologist in New York City states, “It’s so important to regularly get a hearing test because all too often people don’t know that they have a problem.”

In fact, a recent study at Virginia Commonwealth University shows that physicians skip nearly half of all regular evaluations at yearly checkups, and one of the most routinely missed tests is the hearing exam, it gets bypassed nearly 70 percent of the time.

Okay, now that you know to ask for a hearing test, let me also throw this little known documented fact your way: Hearing loss can mean a higher risk of Alzheimer’s…it could also be a red flag for cardiovascular disease! That’s because the inner ear is made up of tons of sensitive blood vessels that are so sensitive, that any changes with them, like hearing loss, could be an early sign of bigger blood vessel issues in the body, such as cardiovascular disease.

Doctors at the Mayo Clinic believe that heredity and chronic exposure to loud noises are the main factors that contribute to hearing loss over time. Other factors, such as earwax blockage, can prevent your ears from conducting sounds as well as they should. But, you can’t reverse hearing loss! However, you don’t have to live in a world of muted, less distinct sounds. You and your doctor or hearing specialist can take steps to improve what you hear.

sunsets to warm your heart,

hugs when spirits sag,

beauty for your eyes to see,

friendships to brighten your being,

faith so that you can believe,

confidence for when you doubt,

courage to know yourself,

patience to accept the truth,

Love to complete your life.”

WHAT’S IN A SIX-PACK?

WHAT’S IN A SIX-PACK?

For those who really want to get six pack abs you must to do two things: lose the fat and build muscle!  Those are your only options…unless you’re willing to use spray paint!  Your abs are located in the midsection of your body…they include the transverse abdominus, internal obliques and external obliques.  It’s the transverse abdominus…that deep muscle that wraps around the entire abdominal  area that helps to stabilize the trunk.  Without getting too technical, it’s all about training the core muscles!

Let’s face it…the go-to method of attaining a six pack is by proper food choices and daily workouts. And the only way to sport toned and muscular abs is to totally get rid of every ounce of fat!  Unfortunately, there is no way to target fat loss on specific areas of the body.  So, you will have to  lose that extra fat through out your entire body in order to get that popular sought after six pack look!  Cardio workouts are workouts are the best way to jump-start your efforts…so focus on aerobic exercises, (Zumba is a fun and effective workout).  But you don’t have to reinvent the wheel or join a gym…dancing, jogging or bike riding are all great cardio workouts.

That right…you can’t keep guzzling six packs and expect to have great abs!  Ditch the alcohol and fast food…they tend to hurt a fat loss efforts.  Smart food choices like fresh fruits and vegetables will help to curb appetite.  And always drink a large glass of before snacks and meals…water helps to fill the belly…adding a sensation of feeling full.

Always eat breakfast…in fact, skipping meals can do more harm than good…it makes you eat more later on!  Eating light meals and smaller portions will help with your weight loss.  Plus, you won’t have to deal with the side effects of eating large, heavy meals, like drowsiness and inactivity. Switching from refined grains to whole grains is also beneficial. In a scientific study, people who ate all whole grains (in addition to five servings of fruits and vegetables, three servings of low-fat dairy, and two servings of lean meat, fish, or poultry) lost more belly fat than another group that ate the same diet, but with all refined grains.   Eating whole grains also changes the glucose and insulin response in your body…this hastens the melting of fat, not to mention that deep layer of fat better known as visceral fat!

Here’s a little known fact: Eating one small meal every three hours that you are awake will keep your metabolism going.  Eating something small every three hours will keep that metabolism burning calories and will help you lose those unwanted pounds.  But remember to include lean protein, that way, your body won’t need to break down your muscles for fuel.  Which by the way, would counter your 6 pack efforts; instead of building muscles…it would shrink your abs and slow down your metabolism!

If you want a six pack, you’ll have to pump iron!  Resistance training is a must…there’s no way around it, over it or under it!  It’s important to limit the amount of muscle mass lost while reducing your calorie intake, and if you limit your workout to only cardiovascular exercises, without the necessary weight training, you may lose the muscle mass in your abs!

Well, I can’t leave out the dreaded ab work; you know, sit-ups, crunches!  How to Get Six-Pack Abs in Two Weeks thumbnailIn other words, you have to Train Your Entire Core! Contrary to popular opinion, the abs’ primary job is not to curl you up into a ball, but they work together with the back muscles to maintain correct posture and stabilize the spine.  These muscles are not just for show! So the best exercises for abs are ones that force your entire core to go into overdrive to support your spine.  Yes, it’s hard work…but it’s worth it! Some exercises that do this are squats and dread lifts.
